Hm....hard! One of my favorites of all time would have to be Ella Enchanted. It was my first real retelling, and every time I read it, I catch more and more things that I missed the previous times. It never gets old, and unfortunately, they totally messed up the movie. Thank goodness for that book.

Cool contest! Thanks a lot. I've heard loads of good things about The Swan Kingdom, but haven't really read many retellings of this fairy tale. My favorite would have to be Daughter of the Forrest by Juliet Marillier. I didn't like the sequels much though.

It varies because I love faery tales beyond all reason. Currently I'm fond of GOOSE CHASE by Patrice Kindl - it uses the Wild Swans as one of its inspirations. Funny tale, likeable narrator . . . plus the author's other novels are worth reading.

I'll have to remember to post about this contest!

This sounds like a wonderful book!

I haven't read a fairytale retelling in quite a while (although I have read other fantasy books which incorporated fairytale elements), but I liked Zel by Donna Jo Napoli.

I put a little link to your contest on my blog.

I don't think I have a favorite fairy tale retelling.....that I can think of but I am looking forward to reading "A Curse Dark as Gold" a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin.

I adore fairytales and fairytale retellings. My favorite is Beauty by Sherri Tepper. Sleeping Beauty is the main one retold but there are a few others integrated as well.

I also just got a Curse as Dark as Gold and am looking forward to reading it.

Hmm... I'd have to say either Ella Enchanted, or Zel. They were both really good.

Although, I've been hearing some good things about A Curse as Dark as Gold, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet. Soon, hopefully.

I'll post about it on my blog, www.paperxxflowers.blogspot.com

If you don't see it right away, just give it about a half hour and check back. Thanks!

My favorite fairytale?? Well, I'd have to say The Two Princesses of Bamarre, because for some reason I really really liked that book... Even more than I liked Ella Enchanted, which I liked a lot =D

My favorite retelling of a fairytale would definitely be either Ella Enchanted (Cinderella) or Fairest (Snow White). Both written by the amazing Gail Carson Levine.

Hmm... this is hard. Being of the old school (don't fix what ain't broke) I'm not big on retellings of the classic fairy tales or any other story for that matter. In fact, more than a retelling, The Brave Apprentice by P.W. Catanese is a sequel to the Brave Little Tailor.

I found it well worth my time though because Mr. Catanese does a flawless job of catching the mood of the classic story on which his retellings and sequels are based.

I don't know if it's really a fairy tale, but i love Avalon High by Meg Cabot. It's about a reincarnated King Arthur and Lady of The Lake (and all the other important characters.) Those stories always fascinate me, mixing history and fantasy.

The Swan Kingdom sounds really good, I'd love to have a copy!

Lets see my favorite re-telling of a fairy tale would have to be Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. It was really good.

Wow! This is a really good contest idea. Anyway. I would have to say that my favorite retelling is probably Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier. Although I was also very fond of Fairest by Gail Carson Levine.

Best of luck to everyone,
*Aella*

Wow! So many great fairy tale re-tellings. Well among my favorites would have to be some of Shannon Hale's. But my ultime favorite re-telling would definitely be Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George. Absolutely great book. Really hope I win as I have been desperately been wanting to read the Swan Kingdom.

It is so hard to pick my favorite retold fairy tale. There is a whole series that I love from Simon & Shuster's teen imprint. The whole Once Upon a Time series is great. Here is a link for their website with all the titles, in case you haven't heard of any. http://www.simonsays.com/content/destination.cfm?tab=23&pid=484666

Enjoy!

The Goose Girl. I loved this book because everything had a true fairytale touch to it. The words and sentences were so carefully crafted that the reader would be stuck on one sentence, rereading it over and over again like rolling a piece of candy around in your mouth.
