What is your writing process?

I’m endlessly fascinated by listening to other writers answer this question. This is probably because my own writing life feels pretty ordinary and boring. I don’t have any quirky habits or weirdly inspirational places to write. I don’t have to write at night, while listening to music, though sometimes I do both. I don’t need absolute silence, but once in a while it helps. The circumstances of my perfect writing atmosphere seem to constantly be in flux, depending on what I’m working on and what feels right at the time.

The only thing that doesn’t change is the writing. I try to do it every day. It doesn’t always work out that way, but I try not to beat myself up about it.

I’ve heard writers say that when they’re stuck, they imagine that they're chained to the desk and not get up until they’ve written through whatever it is in the story that’s holding them back.

I wish I could do that. I’d probably explode first. If I’m not making progress on something, and all of my usual tricks—like re-reading an earlier chapter, or writing an entire scene in dialogue—don’t work, I’ll leave it alone for a bit. The chances that I’m going to be inspired to write are far greater if I take my mind and heart somewhere else.

And then, it’s back to writing. Wherever, whenever, and however it happens…for as long as it happens. I guess, in a way, that’s my process.

What’s yours?

The writing process usually comes out of nowhere for me once in awhile I'm just bombarded with ideas and images and have to type really fast to keep up with them.. One major part of my writing process is to ponder my general ideas while perusing many songs. Sometimes it can be really inspiring.

I usually just think for awhile and gather my thoughts, write down important things that comes to mind then afterwards, I just write:) I'm kind of impulsive:D

I spend time writing it in my head. I write it over and over again before it even reaches my computer.

Well, I'm not a writer so I can't really comment to that. However, I am an avid reader and I do like to listen to music while reading.

My writing process is so laced in academia. Like, I have to have a thesis statement before I can move on with the rest of the writing. Ugh, I need to break free of that so I can write better fiction because fiction seems to be so random.

It all depends. When I'm really feeling scatter brained, I need some quiet, but I often have the TV on in the background. My writing changes from day to day. Sometimes I'm long winded, other days I write "bullet" posts, then at other times I'm somewhere in between.

My writing process is a bit odd. I'll have an idea just pop in my head where I let my mind wonder until it has formed this whole scene, dialogue and all. Then I go type it. Of course this I really need to work on a better method because I will rarely just sit down and write like I should.

Great guest post and thanks for the giveaway! :D

I write down whatever crosses my mind. They pop out in my brain all at one time and I usually forget some of them.

I'm not a writer, but when i write essay for class...i just jump right on the computer and everything flows and comes together.I don't like taking breaks because i might forget what i wanted to say. Also when i write, i have to have complete silence because i get easily distracted.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I don't really right but for when I had to make up stories for English, I would make an outline or word web and go from there. I often find it more relaxing to listen to music while I write.

To be honest, the only writing I ever do is essays for English class, and then I like to create a small outline before I actually begin.
